About the Item

18th century, French Louis XVI inlaid wood secretaire with marble top and gilt bronzes. This elegant secretaire Louis XVI was made in France in the second half of the 18th century. The cabinet is finely inlaid with wooden essences of different colors that create a pleasant chromatic effect very decorative. On the front of the tilting top is inlaid a composition with musical instruments, scores and two doves surrounded by plant elements and a large drapery in Classic style. On the lower and lateral doors there are flower compositions inscribed in geometric frames. The inlays are pyrographed, so as to obtain greater volume and finish in the design, which in fact appears three-dimensional. The secretaire consists of a marble top framed by a gilded bronze reserve. In the band below the floor there is a drawer, with handles and lock in chiselled and gilded bronze. The openings of the lock of the drawer, of the lowering and of the two doors are in bronze chiselled with bow motif Louis XVI. The large central gate hides inside a compartment with open shelves, six small drawers. The open flap door serves as a desk, with leather top. The interior of the cabinet is well finished and attention to detail. The lower part of the secretaire has two doors that hide a compartment divided by a support plan. This secretaire has a refined line, sober and of great elegance. It does not have a large frontal space as it is shallow: it develops laterally, allowing it to be used as a sideboard in a living room. Easily adaptable in any environment, next to antique or modern furniture, it is distinctly decorative, bright and particularly pleasant.
