19th C. Royal Antique Burl Wood Secretary Desk & Black Leather Drop Leaf Top HRH . Very Rare Early 19th century secretary " Secrétaire a' Abattant " desk " Retour D'Egypt " Provenance, Succession: Prince Murat Documents It Still Holds the Ink Stamp from the Sale from " Chateau De La Bastide Murrat " Very exceptional "Loupe D'orme" burr elm wood . Drop-leaf with black leather top, circa 1795-1815. Historical secretary purchased by La Comtesse de Neuilly From Château de Labastide-Murat This was the Secretary Desk of His Royal Highness Joachim Murat-Napoleon the 1st Prince Murat, brother-in-law of Napoleon Bonaparte. & Grand Duke of Berg from 1806 to 1808 & King of Naples as Joachim-Napoleon Husband of Caroline Bonaparte Queen consort of Naples / Grand Duchess consort of Berg Carolina Maria Annunziata Bonaparte Murat This is a Royal piece of Furniture. Attaching the Fiche Stating : Straight up secretary of a monumental Aspect Made from the thuya burl , the interior built with Sycamore and Darkened wood The Key lock ornate and an outstanding key. Very beautiful fabrication ( Judge by the refined Assembly , and the mounting of the Drawers And cabinets, the sliding passages, the interior side very well refinished. With exceptional Quality of the veins of the Thuya “La Loupe” The furniture made of the loupe or burl of thuya , they were commissioned for “ Grande Commande ” The high End. And every aspect of this piece confirms it. Provenance: It has the ink stamp of the sale of the “chateau de La Bastide Murrat in “Perigord” which was the old Name for the “Dordogne” area. The sale of this piece took place in 1928 , they sold the personal furniture of the Prince Murat No Reservation . An important and rare Period desk with a Pull out drawers and Enclosing fitted interior drawers with incredible Bronze work. Outstanding light in color and fine in texture rare Wood . all original hardware and plaques . the entirety of this art work rare Desk to a category of its own. As seen in the closeup pictures the signs of the centuries are apparent but minor such as cracks chips losses etc.. But overall outstanding condition. You are welcome to send your expert to examine it in person. we have seen our fair share of incredible furniture of the 15th to 19th Century periods. this Desk is incredibly well preserved for its age and use . the Ink from the letters written over the centuries on the interior of the drawer, the fitting work and the design we have rarely encountered any at that level of sophistication and craftsmanship . the result that could only be achieved by big Masters comparable to what was done for the Grande Commande . this type of furniture at that level are mostly kept with the old families, rarely to see them on the market. I have some other high end chateau inventory and rare pieces of the periods as well . In a library , living room , study , or executive desk . Condition: Top large documents Drawer with key and lock, you can see minor loss at corners. And below that drawer, another accessible one, in case the assistants need access to some files. The middle Section has a drawer that extends between the Two blackened carved demi busts on plinth applique, supported by meticulous dark black columns, and in between an open compartment. Underneath, another drawer with an Arm handle , Two side Secret pullout chambers, and 5 small drawers for the ink and else. One of the drawers interior still has the traces of Ink, at the time the official letters were written on this important desk. Then the drop down you could see the leather and Greek Key patterns in gold and black color , often referred to as 'Meander' motifs, have captivated the world with their continuous lines forming a repeated maze-like design. Though commonly associated with classical Greek art and architecture, these patterns have made a lasting impact on modern textiles and architecture. Of course as seen, some old repair for a side crack, but it holds well. The bottom part, Two very large drawers, mounted on top of stunning claws. As seen the sides are in good condition as well. With the lines between the fine sheets of Tuya burl. See photos of the documentation attached to the listing.
