Exquisite Louis XVI Secretary Desk – France, c. 1780-1800 This stunning Louis XVI secretary desk, crafted in France between 1780 and 1800, is a masterpiece of 18th-century craftsmanship. Made from rosewood, kingwood, and walnut veneer, it features exquisite floral marquetry, showcasing the refined artistry of the period. A rare and elegant green-colored ribbon marquetry frames the kingwood veneer panels, adding a unique and sophisticated touch. Atop the secrétaire sits a beautiful rose-colored marble slab, complementing its rich wood tones and intricate detailing. The fall-front opens to reveal a functional yet elegant writing space, characteristic of the Louis XVI style, known for its neoclassical influence and timeless appeal. Dimensions: Width: 31.5 in. (80 cm) Depth: 15.75 in. (40 cm) Height: 56.7 in. (144 cm) The leather on the writing top is replaced. It is in good condition with the expected imperfections of a more than 200 year old piece.
