About the Item

Large 1940s Art Deco Jules Leleu style sideboard holds an impressive 78.75 in (200 cm) in width in a large buffet style, with nickeled brass hardware providing perfect support for the dining or rest areas while maintaining symmetrical and clean style lines. An alluring French sideboard with an exquisite dark lacquered doucine veneer finish that boasts impressive nickeled plated accents and four discrete rounded cabriole-inspired legs, as visible in the images. All hardware is original and in working condition, including keys and locks. The buffet-style piece impressively holds a vast interior space in pristine cedar wood. All interior sections are clean and finished with three doors and four large interior drawers for dinnerware and cutlery in the middle section. This Art Deco cabinet combines traditional craftsmanship with modern materials. The term Art Deco is short for Arts Décoratifs and is derived from the 1925 Paris exhibition that showcased this new style to the world. Jules Leleu was a French furniture designer famous for tempering Modernism with classical lines. He remains best known for designs featuring simplified shapes, exotic woods, marquetry and inlays. He fought in the air force during World War I and then returned home to open a gallery, Maison Leleu, dedicating himself to furniture-making. A year later, in 1925, exhibited at the Exposition Industrielle et Arts Décoratifs where he won the Grand Prize.
