About the Item

A rare example of Portuguese Art Nouveau furniture, this compact sideboard from the 1930s offers a striking balance of form and ornament. Crafted in richly toned bark wood, its silhouette fuses clean lines with subtle decorative flourishes, reflecting the transitional aesthetics of early modern design. Its most captivating feature lies in the original glass doors—etched with delicate floral and geometric motifs and framed in mirrored chrome. These panels remain intact with a fine, age-earned patina, embodying the elegance of the era. Both door locks are fully functional and include the original key—an increasingly rare detail that adds to the piece’s authenticity. Professionally restored approximately a decade ago, the sideboard retains its structural integrity and vintage charm. The bark wood has aged beautifully, developing a deep, warm tone that enhances its distinctive grain. Measuring 100 cm wide, 31 cm deep, and 90 cm high, this piece is ideally sized for a hallway, living room, or entryway—serving equally well as a statement piece or functional storage. A refined and uncommon find for collectors and decorators drawn to the Art Nouveau movement and Portuguese design heritage.
