About the Item

This stunning vitrine was realized by the esteemed maker Vernis Martin in France during the 19th century. The piece on stylized cabriolet legs that are traced down the center with a strip of bronze replete with a wealth of neoclassical detailing culminating at its nadir in bronze sabots. It offers a half cylindrical body with a curved demilune form front with a translucent glass door in the center and glass panels on each side. The door offers scalloped detailing on its top and bottom- a design motif that recurs in the piece's apron. Three tableaus are handprinted on the base of the piece. A Arcadian scene involving four seraphs in a pasture surrounded by bucolic woods occupies the center panel, while romanticist forest scenes bookend it on either side. There are a wealth of neoclassical details at the top of the piece including stylized laurel motifs fashioned in a recurring curvilinear border; stylized ram's heads that crown the piece chasing the border; and abstracted foliate detailing throughout. On the inside of the vitrine are three glass shelves perfect for presenting objet d'art and other precious keepsakes. With its beautiful craftsmanship and timeless elegance, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from traditional to contemporary. It is in excellent vintage condition.
