Jules Leleu French Art Deco Vitrine

About the Item

An astounding piece of history in this Jules Leleu vitrine. It’s modest and refined with incredible attention to detail and construction. The brass medallions and sabots assist in rounding out the elegance on this cabinet without taking away from its simplicity. Custom glass protects the top and the existing lacquer finish is exquisite. Both doors lock and unlock with ease and the feet have attached felt to allow sliding for easy movement. Signed on interior right door. Features locking doors to right and left with interior shelving. Center has two sliding glass doors with interior adjustable shelving. In excellent vintage condition with only minor age appropriate wear, very light surface scuffs, minor wear to brass feet. Dimensions: 63ʺW × 16.5ʺD × 56ʺH A designer and ensemblier, Jules Leleu was one of the key authors of the Art Deco movement. While he did not win the fame of such contemporaries as Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann and Jean-Michel Frank, Leleu had a longer career and was easily their peer in the conception of trim, refined furniture forms and in the use of the opulent materials — from lacquer and ivory to sharkskin and exotic woods — that were a keynote of haute Art Deco design.
