About the Item

A French Lorraine Louis XV wardrobe or hall cupboard from the 2nd half of the 18th century. Solid oak and cherry wood with beautiful patina. Made in the traditional stud construction method, the side-moulded oak body has two doors and a drawer. The rounded corners and the curved moulded plinth frame end in slightly S-shaped volute feet. Marquetry and ribbon inlays decorate both the frame board and the drawer front. The skilfully crafted doors made of solid cherry wood are the centrepiece and at the same time an expression of the particularly high-quality workmanship of this cabinet. They are each hung on 3 large external hand-forged iron fittings and consist of strongly profiled frames with a central circular ornament and curved panels. The upper end is formed by the curved cornice with folding star and various ribbon inlays under the overlying arched cornice. Original lock with key and the iron fittings complete this cabinet. Inside, it is fitted with a high-quality retrofitted clothes rail and a shelf above, making it an ideal wardrobe. Dimensions Height: 232.5 cm / 91.53 inch. Width: 141 cm or 159 cm (incl. headboard) / 55.51 inch or 62.59 inch (incl. headboard). Depth: 58 cm or 65.5 cm (incl. headboard) / 22.83 inch or 25.78 inch (incl. headboard). Internal depth: 52 cm / 20.47 inch. Good authentic condition with a beautiful original patina surface and slight signs of age-related wear including old woodworm channels (not active) and some visible repairs. The surface has been carefully cleaned and polished with wax. The wardrobe can be dismantled into several parts for transport (2 side panels, 2 doors, 1 drawer, rear wall panels, plinth frame, cornice frame, cornice, shelf and clothes rail) and reassembled by plugging and dowelling the wooden tenon joints together without screws.
