About the Item

This is a lovely antique high quality English George IV figured mahogany two door wardrobe, dating from Circa 1820. This wonderful tall two door wardrobe features a stepped moulded cornice above a pair of two-panel doors, enclosing five flame mahogany and ash-lined drawers under a hanging section with brass hooks on one side, and a full width hanging section with a brass hanging pole, brass hooks and a shoe drawer on the bottom, on the other side. Complete with the original working lock and key. It is a truly beautiful and spacious wardrobe with handsome proportions and beautiful patina. The mahogany of good colour, figure and patination, a high quality cabinet by a top maker such as Gillow or Holland. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THAT THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION AND DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY RESTRICTED MATERIALS. Condition: In really excellent condition having only been beautifully cleaned and waxed in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. Our reference: A4195
