Art Deco Modernist Armoire or Wardrobe by Hendrik Wouda for Pander, 1924

About the Item

Magnificent and rare Art Deco Modernist armoire or wardrobe. Design by Hendrik Wouda for H. Pander & Zonen Den Haag. Striking Dutch design from the 1920s. Solid oak with original black lacquered wooden knobs. The left door has still the original mirror. Four original solid pitch-pine shelves, adjustable in height and one shelf has two drawers. Marked with original manufacturers metal tag and original key with monogram. In very good original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Will be dismantled for safe transport and will be shipped in a custom made wooden crate when purchased by overseas buyers! The Modernist look of this wonderful Art Deco armoire or wardrobe by Hendrik Wouda for H. Pander & Zonen Den Haag is also known in The Netherlands under the name Haagse School. The Haagse School was inspired by the designs of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The famous Dutch Art Magazine Wendingen published a series of articles on Frank Lloyd Wright in 1925. Well known architects of the Haagse School are Hendrik Wouda, Jan Wils, Frits Spanjaard, Cor Alons and Jan Brunott.
