Early 19th Century Antique Original Painted Break Down Armoire from Germany

About the Item

This impressive original painted large armoire or "German Shrunk" was built in the traditional manner to "break down" into 2 sections, making it easier to transport and install, all resting on large bun feet. The original polychrome painted finish (which is a wonderful example of the stylized faux painting of the era) has teal blue, brick red and ochre/gold colored accents. Notice the original hardware including the wrought-iron hinges, lock and key hole cover. The long iron hook to the interior left is used to keep the left door closed while the right door is open. The armoire shows expected age related wear as seen in the level of distress to the paint, wear, raw edges, scratches/dings/nicks expected in an item that is close to 200 years old. This impressive armoire has been restored and lightly waxed, protecting the lovely original hand-painted flourishes which make it such a special find. It is in solid/stable condition and is ready to be used and enjoyed. Please take a moment to enlarge the photos and examine the details up close. ** In light of current affairs and fluctuating fuel prices shipping quotes and timelines are estimates only. Buyer is required to notify us upon purchase if there are interior or exterior stairs, steps, or freight elevators necessary to complete delivery.
