Early 19th Century Original Painted Break-Down Armoire with Flowers, Austria
About the Item
This original painted armoire or "Shrunk" was built in the traditional manner to "break down" into 2 sections, making it easier to transport and install, with one lower drawer all resting on large bun feet.
The original polychrome painted finish (which is a wonderful example of the stylized faux painting of the era) has beautiful floral bouquets in each of the painted panels. The sides, canted sides, and crown are also beautifully embellished with decorative painting.
Notice the original hardware including the decorative hinges, lock, key and keyhole cover.
Left door is held in place with lower wood peg/latch. Shelves are removable; two (upper) are narrow 1/2 shelves, the lower is a full shelf. Original hand-carved wooden hooks remain in the interior upper section.
This pine armoire shows expected age related wear as seen in the level of distress to the paint; wear, abrasions, scratches/dings/nicks expected in an item that is almost 200 years old.
This impressive armoire has been restored and lightly waxed, protecting the lovely original hand-painted flourishes which make it such a special find. It is in solid/stable condition and is ready to be used and enjoyed.
All scratches, cracks, dings, and age related separation are reflective of age and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this original painted shrunk.
Please refer to professional photos for clear understanding of color, condition, and details; photo lighting, individual monitor display and home lighting all impact how item is viewed. Photos are part of item description, please ask questions or request additional photos of specific areas if needed.
