German 19th Century Pine Armoire

About the Item

This massive antique oak armoire was crafted in the early 19th century in present-day Germany. Apart from the scale, the most curious and unique feature is the inspirational phrase carved into the frieze, roughly translating to: “What is easily acquired does not seem expensive. What is difficult to obtain is twice as valuable.” Pilasters flanking the large paneled door are richly adorned with corbels and molding in carved geometric patterns in between foliate medallions. The armoire doors showcase stylized medallions in the corners of each panel, opening on original hinges and working lock & key. Inside, two shelves are adjustable by a system of wood brackets for infinite personalization and adaptability to articles of clothing or linens. At the base are two drawers opened by turned wood knobs. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to reveal every historic detail. Be sure to view all the detailed images. Shelf depth: 16 ⅜”
