About the Item

A sophisticated and grand French Napoleon III second Empire armoire in mahogany with fine bronze doré ormolu mounts, and three beveled, mirrored doors. France, circa 1870-1890. This very impressive armoire displays an extremely high level of craftsmanship with a well designed form that begins with the domed bonnet top & continues through to the smallest gilded details which are all finely articulated. Offers ample storage for clothing and/or linens with three beautiful long dressing mirrors. Dimensions: 91" wide x 24 1/2" deep x 104" high interior depth in center is 20 3/4" Our French polish & restoration is of museum quality. Armoire has 3 original drawers, 2 exterior and 1 interior and has been outfitted with a hanging bar in the center, 3 fixed shelves on the left and 6 adjustable shelves on the right. This armoire is in very good condition for an antique having been restored and French polished. There are minor surface imperfections consistent with age and use but there are no mechanical or structural issues. Left door opens and closes freely but slight pressure needs to be applied in the center of the door to lock and to re-open. All locks are in good working order. There are 2 keys. One for the 3 doors and one for the 2 outside drawers. Mirrors are hand beveled and original and have some foxing or distressing of the silver backing but are in good condition and generally clear and without distortion.
