Very Rare Original Signed Dated 1989 Andrew Varah Umbrella Men Rarewood Wardrobe

We are delighted to offer for sale this absolutely stunning original Signed and dated Andrew Varah 1989 Umbrella Men Rosewood wardrobe This piece is pretty, the coolest piece of Art furniture I have ever seen, the pictures don’t come close to doing it justice, it is absolutely sublime in every single possible way, the timber patina from every angle, the style, composition, form everything is 10/10 All the shelves are height adjustable or removable, it can be used as a bookcase or as its intended function a wardrobe for folded and hanging clothes, each cupboard has a forward facing rail. It easily breaks down to three easy to transport pieces It is as mentioned an original Andrew Varah Umbrella Men surrealist three door gentleman's wardrobe, designed in 1989, each hinged door modelled as a gentleman' s knee-length overcoat and boots, the central figure with a peg leg, hanging on a clothes hanger, each with an umbrella the handle forming the door-handle of the wardrobe internally fitted with two low drawers, on low foot bar, mixed exotic veneers comprising Brazilian Rosewood coats and boots, pressure dyed Tabu veneers for shirts, Satinwood coat hangers Oak and Burr Oak background, metal door furniture, stamped to metal furniture AV and paper label to reverse of each cabinet, the middle such label is signed and dated by the artist Varah produced around five variations of the Umbrella Men wardrobe between 1987 and 2003, each example is unique. The surrealist-inspired design is inlaid with various veneers, and the gentlemen's umbrella handles act as door handles. In terms of the condition it is good for the age which is 30 years old, there are some small chips in the veneer on the back edges and some very light general patina marks, mostly its in fine order and looks sublime Dimensions Height 206.5cm Width 200cm, divides into three easy to transport pieces Depth 42cm, 48cm including handles Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
