Custom Order Twin Sculptural Form Knut Hesterberg Coffee Table, 1971, Published

About the Item

Beautiful and unique, custom order, sculptural form side table by German sculptor Knut Hesterberg , the twin sculptural elements can be arranged to taste to create many possible spatial relationships and are formed from high pressure die cast aluminium . The original rectangular glass top has a few chips through age and use but can easily be replaced. We have not come across the twin sculptural element variant of this particular Hersterberg form before so it was very likely a special one off custom order for a private client. This particular Hesterg sculptural form was produced in very limited numbers and only between the years 1971-2, by Bacher Tische Gmbh who were based in Renningen-Stuttgart, Germany (ie production started in 1971 and finished in 1972, these production dates and details are confirmed in Belloli's 1983 monograph on the works of Knut Hesterberg, a photocopy of this documentation will be provided to the buyer on request. Each individual sculptural element measures: 62cm x 54cm x 45 cm High or 24.4 " x 21.25 " x 17. 7 " high The single sculptural element version of this form with a round glass top is illustrated as Figure 32 in the monograph on Knut Hesterberg's sculptures , please see black and white images and full literature reference below. LITERATURE : “KNUT HESTERBERG :SKULPTUR + DESIGN”, Fig 32 , Carlo Belloli, Verlag W.Jaggi ,Basel,Switzerland, 1983 Knut Hesterberg is a world famous German sculptor who started his career at the graphic arts and design studio in Zurich, Switzerland where he came into contact with the architect and artist Max Bill who had a great influence on his future work. He has exhibited his sculptures all over Europe and many of his large scale sculptures are permanently installed in public spaces throughout Germany and a few in Italy (please see images 8 and 9 for a couple of large scale public works) . In the late 1960s he was asked to design a series of very limited sculptural form tables, this design for Bacher and a further series of sculptural form designs for the German company Ronald Schmitt with the intention of bringing art into the realm of people's everyday lives.

Wear consistent with age and use. The twin aluminium sculptural elements are in nice original condition , the original glass top suffers from a few chips commensurate with originality, age and use. If the buyer wishes the glass top can be replaced with a new one .
