About the Item
A rare and iconic Italian Mid-Century Modern Round Cocktail Table in Solid Walnut attributed to the Italian master architect and designer Gio Ponti. The piece presents an original and bold design of 4 deeply angled and deeply tapered legs with deeply angled and tapered supports which all intersect at a midpoint and form a dramatic base supporting a round top of glass. The piece masters the seemingly contradictory forces of continual movement and sublime balance into a dynamic synthesis. Ponti matches the design with highest quality of material available, solid walnut, which has a rich resonance.
Gio Ponti was midcentury creator whose career spanned the entire midcentury movement from 1930 through the 1970's.He defined and expanded the modern sensibility in furniture, objects, interior design and architecture and is the key figure in 20th century Italian design. His designs were always fresh and human in their scale, comfort and practicality
Dimensions: H 16, the diameter with the existing glass top 41.25”, the diameter of the solid walnut base D 39.4". This table can aesthetically and structurally support a circular top between 41.25" and 47".
