About the Item

This antique low table was crafted in the Meiji Era (1868–1912). In traditional Japanese homes, people often sat directly on the floor to write or work, and desks were designed with a lower height to suit that lifestyle. These low desks are known as fuzukue (traditional Japanese writing desks), and they were used for daily writing and reading activities. This piece is made entirely from Japanese zelkova wood (keyaki), featuring a single solid plank for the top. The surface displays the dynamic and flowing grain patterns that are characteristic of zelkova, highlighting the natural beauty of the wood. The legs are lathe-turned, forming a well-balanced silhouette that brings a quiet presence to the piece. Two drawers are built into the front, providing functional storage space while preserving the desk’s elegant simplicity. From its material to its construction and design, this desk reflects the craftsmanship and thoughtful functionality that were deeply rooted in Japanese daily life. Cleaned and disinfected with non-toxic solution. The drawers moves smoothly. We have conducted a meticulous check for any broken or damaged areas, and the result is absolutely problem-free. It is in excellent condition. The interior dimensions of the drawers are as follows (in inches, with centimeters in parentheses): W10.63" × D12.68" × H2.52" (27 cm × 32.2 cm × 6.4 cm) Weight :20.3lbs(9.2kg) Shipping Information We ship from Japan.
