About the Item

Designed and crafted by the Argentine artist Ricardo Videla in the 1970s, this sculptural coffee table is a striking fusion of art and functionality. The table is composed by two solid bronze bases, each featuring a unique brutalist design with a mix of rough and polished surfaces that create a dynamic, visually arresting appearance. The bases are uniquely different and offer versatility, with one base adjustable to various positions, allowing for personalization and diverse aesthetic arrangements. The table is topped with a rectangular glass surface that seems to float between the bronze bases. The glass top is newly made and in pristine condition, complementing the sculptural elements beneath. One of the bases is signed by Videla, a detail visible in the final published images, which adds an extra layer of authenticity and collectability. The brass bases retain their original patina, offering a character-rich look that can be polished to a gleaming finish upon request. Ricardo Videla, born in Buenos Aires in 1939, is a renowned sculptor with a Master's degree in Sculpture from the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, obtained in 1961. His artistic journey spans over two decades in Brazil, where his work draws on a rich cultural heritage and demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship. This table comes from a Brazilian collector, underscoring the international appeal of Videla’s work. Videla primarily focused on sculptures and artworks, producing only a few furniture pieces, making this coffee table a rare and highly collectible item that transcends mere functionality to become a significant work of art.
