About the Item
Amazing low ceramic coffee table, designed by Jean Gregorieff for Roche Bobois in the 1970s. The rectangular tabletop is composed of 10 cream-colored ceramic pieces, framed by a chrome-plated steel metal frame, like its curved legs. A decorative, fully geometric flower extends over two of the pieces, standing out against an ochre or orange background. This representation evokes a visual language that blends the artisanal with the symbolic, and the natural with the modern.
Jean Gregorieff (1931-?)
Jean Gregorieff was a French writer and designer. His professional career began in 1947, delving into the world of lithography. His creative curiosity led him to explore Paris by bicycle, a city that became his greatest source of inspiration.
In 1959, Gregorieff moved to the luminous region of the French Riviera, settling in Vallauris. There, he learned the techniques of the wheel and pottery, discovering a new expressive language in ceramics. He was a contemporary of Pablo Picasso. Just a year later, he founded his own workshop in Cannes.
However, his name is especially linked to the creation of coffee tables, authentic collector's items that marked a turning point in the collaboration between craftsmanship and modern design. In partnership with the prestigious Roche Bobois firm, Gregorieff designed a series of tables during the 1960s and 1970s that are still considered gems of vintage furniture. These tables were not merely utilitarian pieces of furniture, but artistic expressions with a strong visual identity.
