Rosewood Coffee + Nesting Side Table Set Stone Top in the Style of Pierre Chapo

About the Item

A 1980s French coffee + side table featuring beautifully grained rosewood frames with inlaid textured stone tops. The gentle curve of the frame-legs show excellent craftsmanship and are reminiscent of the classic lines of bentwood, a typical Mid Century trait. This design correlated heavily with Pierre Chapo’s collaboration with Maison Regain, which featured a slate tile elm wood coffee table. Unmarked. Sourced in France, 1980s. Priced for the pair. Pierre Chapo was a French architect and designer first interested in painting. His encounter with a shipbuilding carpenter in 1947 introduced him to wood and woodworking, and led to architectural studies at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After traveling through Scandinavia, Central America and working for a year in the United States, he returned to Paris and pursued his interest in wood, crafting furniture mainly out of solid oak, elm, ash or teak with a double concern for contemporary design and traditional know-how. • French Brutalist Oak Coffee Table, in the style of Pierre Chapo, 1950s, Handmade

Very unique oak handmade massive slays of tree. The top is patinated and shows various shades of brown/brownish colors and honey tones. Elegant and brutalist describe that table properly. The height is 31.5 cm and is 86 cm x 66 cm. Very strong table. Lovely coffee table.
