About the Item

Fine chippendale mahogany serving or console table Mahogany serving table in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, with an 18th century Cuban mahogany top of excellent colour, with later gadrooned edge, over a banded frieze. The square chamfered legs with blind fretwork, stands on moulded block feet. A table of good scale and proportions, the timber with good depth of colour, presented in excellent condition. The blind fretwork to the legs is typical of Chippendale design, these legs are also 18th century. Possibly Irish, using 18th century components and 19th century embellishments.

This English mahogany console table is a rare period example of the elaborate Chinese Chippendale style. A study in symmetry and balance, this table combines the restrained elegance of the Georgian period with the intricate artistry of the Orientalist aesthetic.
