Italian early 19th century Empire st. Mahogany and Giltwood console and mirror
About the Item
A stately and most impressive Northern Italian early 19th century Empire st. patinated Mahogany, Giltwood and Veneered marble console and mirror. This stunning console and its original mirror are raised by square block feet with Giltwood sabots and capitals, as well as richly chased foliate and palmette designs continuing up the legs. The apron is decorated by an Ormolu garland reserve below a border of drapery swags and beading supporting the console's top. The veneered marble top consists of two bookmatched pieces of Breccia Pontificia marble, framed by elements in Verona Red, Alpine Green and Statuary marble. The matching Mahogany mirror is decorated with a Giltwood string of laurels at the bottom, leading to urns on the left and right which hold Mahogany tapered columns. The columns lead up each side of the mirror plate to carved Sphinx mounts. The mirror plate it surrounded by a fine Giltwood foliate border and finials. The top of this most impressive mirror is adorned with Giltwood garlands, a ribboned laurel crown and winged torches.
