About the Item

We kindly invite you to read the full description, as it provides detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our pieces. This elegant and refined French console table is crafted entirely from walnut wood. The top features a beautifully contoured shape, while the supporting border is adorned with exquisite hand-carved floral decorations . The rounded side sections display symmetrical fluting, also carved and gilded. The front legs, with a circular cross-section, taper gracefully downward and are embellished with long fluted grooves. The rear legs, which rest against the wall, have a rectangular cross-section and are also fluted. These are connected by a long stretcher, which in turn is linked to the front legs through elegant curved elements, creating a fluid and harmonious design that ensures both stability and structural integrity. A particularly noteworthy detail is the finely sculpted and carved central knob decoration on the back stretcher. This element is flattened on the back to allow the console to sit flush against the wall. This console table was crafted between 1770 and 1775 by a master cabinetmaker in an artisanal workshop in Bordeaux, a major city in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Bordeaux was renowned for its thriving furniture trade with England and boasted a tradition of producing elegant, well-crafted pieces that ranged from the Louis XV style to Neoclassicism, with a strong emphasis on fine woodworking. The original finish featured a white lacquer, created using natural pigments and layers of gesso and glue, which were then smoothed and protected with transparent varnishes. Over time, the varnish has naturally aged, as visible in the photos. However, we have not carried out any restorations to preserve the piece’s original character, avoiding alterations that could compromise its historical authenticity. The aged patina is an added value, highly appreciated in today’s interior design world. The Louis XVI style emerged in the late 18th century and is characterized by a neoclassical design with clean lines, classical ornamentation, and an overall refined aesthetic, inspired by ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Louis XVI furniture often features fluted legs, rosettes, and geometric motifs. This exceptional console table is a true work of art, a testament to the craftsmanship and sophistication of the 18th century, and an embodiment of the timeless elegance of the Louis XVI style. The gracefully contoured top rests on a finely carved structure, highlighted by fluted legs and exquisite detailing. Time has bestowed this piece with a unique patina, enhancing its period charm and authentic character. Perfect for enhancing a classic setting or creating a sophisticated contrast in a modern space, this console tells a story of exceptional craftsmanship and enduring beauty. A rare find that will captivate collectors and antique enthusiasts alike. Pieces that bear the marks of time tell a story and add personality to interiors. Wrought Iron Italian Wall Console Table with Wooden Top
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as it provides detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. This elegant and refined Italian wrought iron wall console table features an exceptional curvilinear and slender design, aesthetically and symmetrically perfect. The upper top is made of high-quality wood painted black, with few decorative elements that are simple and rationally distributed. This model has the convenient feature of being fixed to the wall by means of two small perforated plates welded to the back edge of the console table (see photo), ensuring the piece of furniture is permanently solid and stable. The console table was created between 1930 and 1935 in an ironworking workshop in the Santo Spirito district of Florence, Tuscany, Italy. Since ancient times, this part of the city has been the vibrant center of Florence's craftsmanship. Florence has a long history of metalworking, dating back to the Renaissance, when it was an important center for the production of wrought iron. Florentine craftsmen were renowned for their intricate designs and high-quality ironwork, often used for furniture, gates, and architectural elements. Italian wrought iron consoles have a rich history and are admired for their craftsmanship, elegance, and durability. The evolution of these pieces reflects broader trends in art, architecture, and interior design in Italy, particularly in Tuscany. The use of wrought iron dates back to antiquity, but during the late medieval period, Italian blacksmiths began to perfect their skills, creating functional and decorative artifacts, including furniture. The Renaissance (14th-17th centuries) was a significant period for art and craftsmanship in Italy. Wealthy patrons, inspired by classical antiquity, commissioned intricate wrought iron work for their homes and public buildings. Tuscany during the Renaissance was the world center for art, culture, science, and crafts. During the Baroque period (17th-18th centuries), wrought iron consoles became more extravagant, featuring bold and dramatic designs with heavy ornamentation. Neoclassicism (late 18th-early 19th century) brought a return to simplicity and classical inspiration; wrought iron furniture had decorative elements inspired by ancient Greece and Rome. From the 19th to the early 20th century, ironwork saw a mix of styles, including the revival of earlier periods and the introduction of new trends such as Art Nouveau, with organic, flowing lines and patterns inspired by nature. In the 20th century, wrought iron console tables continued to evolve, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design principles. Mid-century modern styles (1920-1950) favored a more minimalist design, with simple, clean lines and functional forms. Wrought iron furniture could incorporate glass and wood. Italian wrought iron console tables were traditionally made by skilled blacksmiths using techniques passed down through generations. This involved heating the iron in forges and shaping it with a hammer and anvil. Italian wrought iron console tables are often considered functional works of art, serving practical purposes while acting as focal points in a room. This particular type of table is versatile and suits a variety of settings, from classic to contemporary. Antique wrought iron console tables...
