Swedish 19th century carved birch pedestal desk

About the Item

Swedish 19th century carved birch pedestal desk circa 1890. Good quality empire revival Swedish 3 part desk, comprising of 2 pedestals and a writing surface with drawers. Quarter veneered top surface with an inlaid contrasting walnut border, 3 drawers below the top surface, one of these above the knee which gives a comfortable knee height of 24.75 inches. Raised on 2 pedestals with ebonised columns and inset panels. Left hand pedestal opens to a single shelf and the 4 oak drawer slides to the right hand side. Standing on block feet. Desk design is mirrored on the reverse, which makes this table free standing. Rich golden colour. Writing surface with various restorations to veneer and surface fading, ebonised columns with surface marks from use, but kept in original condition. Minor restorations to woodwork. Working locks and keys, ready for everyday use. Knee height: 24 3/4" Knee width: 24"
