About the Item

The architectural thinking of Carlo Scarpa is especially evident in this piece. Designed in 1971 for the ‘Ultrarazionale’ collection by Simon Gavina, the ‘Samo’ dining table consists of two fluted pillar-like bases supporting a single, floating oval granite top. The legs are spaced 10 cm apart, emphasizing the table’s sculptural rhythm and architectural stance. Marked by Scarpa’s signature balance between mass and delicacy, the table embodies architectural presence: the fluted columns recall classical supports, while the solid granite top rests purely by gravity — a studied exercise in weight, proportion, and material honesty. Visible signs of age are documented in the photos. The piece has been intentionally left in original condition with patina and wear; a light, conservative restoration can be arranged upon request. Carlo Scarpa (1906–1978) was one of the most important and influential architects of the 20th century. Deeply inspired by Venetian craftsmanship, materials, and Japanese aesthetics, Scarpa brought together history, artistry, and technical mastery in everything from architectural detail to glass and furniture design.
