French 19th Century Oak Refectory Table

About the Item

A massive 19th century French oak trestle table in the Refectory style, with whimsical details in the base. Impossibly heavy, the top planks are 3 ⅜” thick to create a solid surface for dining or working. Typical of refectory, or monastery tables, the two support legs are wide and shaped on the edges to graceful undulations for an interesting profile when viewed from the side. A large stretcher spans the distance in between the legs and is pinned with an exaggerated, rounded peg. Proportionally wide “shoes” on the floor, 4 ¼” wide, offer visual balance as well as structural support. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, this truly unique dining table is ready to join your interior. Please view the detailed images.
