About the Item

Brutalist so called Guaruja round pedestal table designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured by his own company l’Atelier, Brazil 1959. This stunning large dining table has a rosewood patchwork top supported by a solid concrete base, covered with black leather. A thick metal structure supports the oval top. This is for a very nice sized round version which can use up to 6 chairs easily, with one concrete base which serves as pillar for the main feature of the table, the patchwork jacaranda wooden top. The idea from the patchwork top came from the use of left-over scraps of wood available at the factory is a characteristic feature for Zalszupin’s designs, which was of course super-efficient. The tabletop is completely refinished and is again in excellent condition. The leather base is in very good condition with minimal wear from age and usage. The table can use up to 10 chairs easily, depending on the size of the chairs of course. The table is marked with a L’Atelier sticker at the bottom of the tabletop and the ESAF tag on the bottom where the table comes from. Chairs not included, the are available in a separate listing. Provenance; School of Farm Administration, an organ of the Brazilian Ministry of Finance, Brasilia 1959 Have a look at the 360* video tour from the Jorge Zalszupin exhibition >   Video tour Fully refinished in our own atelier with high quality UV protection lacquer with preservation of authenticity. Also, completely structural checked and ready to use.

Beautiful and super rare round dining table by Joaquim Tenreiro, Brazil 1960. The precision and attention to detail by Tenreiro are visible in every inch of this creation. Jorge Zalszupin 'Guaruja' Rosewood Vintage Dining Table, 1960s, Brazil
By Jorge Zalszupin
Located in New York, NY
The iconic Guarujá is a table designed by Jorge Zalszupin (1922-2020) in 1959 and produced by his company, L'atelier. A rosewood patchwork top rests over one concrete base finished with leather. This patchwork solution is present in other pieces designed by Zalszupin. Modern design taught us about using the material rationally, having the design as a tool to avoid waste. Aesthetically, the patchwork explores the different tones of the Brazilian rosewood beautifully, achieving a unique result. At the time, the Guanabara table was presented as a dynamic piece that could be used in the corporate spaces (as a meeting...
