About the Item

A fine ormolu-mounted and rosewood veneered gueridon à écritoire, stamped by the Parisian ébéniste Pierre-François Quéniard dit Guignard (1740-1794), became maître in 1767. He was a cabinet maker and renowned furniture merchant, established on the Rue de la Roquette in Paris. He took actively part in the French Revolution which eventually cost his life. The oval marble top within an entrelac-pierced three-quarter gilt bronze gallery above a pull-out leather-lined writing slide, with a frieze drawer to one side, fitted with small compartments, on slightly cabriole legs headed by foliate-cast mounts and joined by a kidney-shaped undertier, the feet with wood casters. A very elegant writing table of exquisite craftsmanship.
