Pair Antique Victorian English Minton Majolica Pedestals

About the Item

Pair Antique Victorian English Minton Majolica Pedestals English, 1879 Height 97cm, width 40.5cm, depth 40.5cm A superb example of Victorian artistry, this antique pair of pedestals was created by the renowned ceramics manufacturer Minton in 1879. Established in 1793, Minton quickly rose to international acclaim for producing some of the finest porcelain and earthenware of the 19th century. These pedestals are striking in their form and decoration. Each one features a square silhouette resting on a matching square plinth. A bold black top crowns the structure, set above a decorative green acanthus-leaf frieze that is echoed at the base. The central panels are adorned on all four sides with vividly coloured garlands in a rich palette of polychrome hues, set against a deep terracotta ground. At each corner, twisted columns painted in shades of yellow and orange lend architectural elegance to the design. The overall colour scheme is warm and earthy, with motifs inspired by the natural world. Flowers, leaves, fruits, and vegetables are rendered in detail, creating a celebration of organic abundance and seasonal beauty. On the underside, each pedestal bears multiple identifying marks, including the ‘MINTONS’ stamp, a date code, and an inventory number. This pair not only serves as a decorative focal point but also offers an ideal platform for showcasing vases, sculptures, or other treasured objects.
