Steel I-Beam Pedestal by Don Powell and Robert Kleinschmidt

About the Item

Designed by important Chicago interior architects Powell/ Kleinschmidt, this pedestal was fabricated for an custom interior and is made in the form of a I-beam. This is a design which they have executed in several commissions over the years in a range of shapes and sizes as needs dictated. Beautiful in its minimal elegance, the pedestal is also capable of supporting a very heavy artwork or object while remaining visually light. In addition to being highly functional, the I-beam also acknowledges a history of Chicago architecture made famous by the steel skyscrapers, important buildings by Mies Van der Rohe and SOM (where Don Powell worked for 15 years before partnering with Bob Kleinschmidt) The pedestal has an attached felt wrapped pad to protect the top of the pedestal and artwork.
