About the Item
A' Design Award Iron - Furniture 2023
A visual and symbolic dialog with Henri Matisse's “La Danse (I)” (1909-1910), one of the most iconic paintings of modernism. It is believed that the idea for the composition came about in 1905, while the painter watched some fishermen performing a circle dance, the Sardana, on a beach in the south of France.
In the work, naked bodies intertwined form a dynamic circle, conveying movement, lightness and fluidity. The artist sought to express the essence of life through dance and color. The piece echoes this same organic rhythm and circular gesture, like a dance in object form. The rounded shapes seem to vibrate like bodies in motion, recalling the continuous, pulsating dance of Matisse's painting.
