About the Item

On offer here is a stunning early 19th-century English Mahogany drop leaf or gateleg table. The table rests on six round straight tapered legs ending in wonderfully large pad feet. The table was stained in a warm brown color and finished with many layers of shellac to add a deep gloss. The table features a moulded rectangular 0.7-inch thick solid mahogany top surmounting a rectangular apron. The swing legs that support the raised leaves are joined to the table base by beautifully carved wood hinges. The table’s top is made of three wide boards of solid mahogany with a great flame grain pattern. The table has built up a great patina over the years and shows a deep gloss. With the leaves down, the table is 20.08 inches wide. Once extended it doubles the width to 40.16 inches. The table was gently cleaned in our atelier and a new protective wax coat was applied. The piece is clean, solid, and ready for use. Important note; However some species of mahogany are restricted under CITES legislation, the table offered here is made in Sipo Mahogany. This species is not affected by CITES regulations and can be shipped across borders without problems.
