About the Item

This is a wonderful screenprint on canvas with hand embellishment by Steve Kaufman. Once Andy Warhol's assistant, Steve Kaufman was a prominent pop artist in the 1980s-2000s. This Einstein piece is from his "Homage to Genius" series. Kaufman chose to embellish with white against a stark red background. The piece is signed on verso, "Peace and Respect/SAK" and numbered 178/195. The certificate of authenticity, as shown in pictures 7, 8, and 9, are included. His work was so diverse over the years, this piece would have been done after he moved to Los Angeles. This is a must for any pop art collector! Kauffman came from a family of artists, who always encouraged diversity in art: "They taught me that to be an artist is to be always changing. So I tried all different forms of art and today I have 15 different styles that I work in. Art should always be about changing. A lot of artists will work in one medium their whole career, but I didn't want to ever get bored. I was taught that canvas is not the only thing to paint on." Steve Allen Kaufman Below from steve Kaufman art: "Steve Kaufman in his day-to-day life embodied and delivered the true American pop art experience. He painted iconic people, historical figures, and products significant in our daily lives. He was an artistic journalist who commented on both history and current events with his art. Steve Kaufman advanced the use of the silkscreen process, and was most widely recognized for his use of vivid colors and hand embellishment. Steve was very prolific -- he would paint on just about anything!"
