About the Item

Created by Bonnie MacLeary, a Texas-born sculptor famed for her "Aspiration" and "Ouch" bronzes, two of several created in the 1920s, this classic Art Deco tile dates from the 1940s, after MacLeary moved to New York and concentrated on ceramic work. Finished with gorgeous purple and ivory glazes highlighted with gold, this tile depicts a somersaulting goat -- full of high energy and whimsy. The tile retains its original label and frame.

"Rearing Goat, " Highly Stylized Art Deco Sculpture, Cleveland School
Located in Philadelphia, PA
This unique Art Deco sculpture -- carved, not molded -- depicts a highly-stylized goat figure with the ears of a satyr rearing up over a mound of Art Deco tendrils. The mythological feeling of the goat is reminiscent of the animals that romped to the strains of Beethoven's Sixth Symphony in "Fantasia," and the detail is very fine. This piece, though not signed, comes from an artist from the Cleveland...

By Eugene Francis Savage
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Painted by Eugene Savage -- arguably, America's most successful and prolific muralist in the Art Deco style, with important surviving paintings dating from the 1920s to the 1950s -- this study was made for a Zodiac-themed ceiling mural. The round painting features a night sky jeweled with bands of stars, and featuring several mythological figures such as Helios with his chariot and Cornucopia. Mid-Century Polish Glass Zodiac Block – Capricorn
Located in Hamburg, DE
This captivating Mid-Century glass object from Poland is a beautiful representation of 1950s design. Crafted from solid, cast colored glass, the piece is rectangular in shape and reminiscent of a glass brick. The front showcases an artistic relief of the zodiac sign Capricorn – featuring both the symbol and a stylized figure of the mythological sea-goat, a timeless emblem of this astrological sign. Its bold coloration and the expressive, sculptural quality of the design are typical of the era. When placed in natural light or in front of a window, the glass comes alive, glowing with warmth and brilliance. It’s an eye-catching piece that can serve not only as a decorative element but also as a unique architectural feature, such as a built-in glass block within a wall. This zodiac glass...
