Leon Danchin, born in 1887 in Lille, France, began his career as an artist at the age of sixteen when he was admitted to the Salon des Artistes in Paris. He eventually became known as one of the best French artists, specializing in birds, dogs and horses, and is still highly regarded today. During his lifetime he produced over a hundred etchings and lithographs, focusing mainly, but not exclusively, on the sporting practice of animals in the field. He was also a talented painter and sculptor.
