About the Item

This exceptional needlework dates to the early 19th century and is a master class in the art of needlework. It incorporates many different types of thread and complicated stitches combined with hand painted silk used mainly for the faces and skin. The view shows a scene of a rural agricultural worker who is about to leave his wife and family with his dog for the day's work. He is much loved and finds it difficult to say goodbye to his young daughters. The family is standing in front of their picturesque cottage which has a bird cage hanging by the door. In the distance, there is a view of the local church. This very good needlework picture is displayed in its original reversed painted and gilt glass mount and black and gilt frame all of which are in good original condition. Importantly the needlework retains good colour. There is a tiny amount of age related damage to a small section of silk just by the church spire which is barely noticeable.
