About the Item

An original textile strike off from France (19th century) preserved in an antique gold gilt frame and antique wavy glass, recently mounted on archival-quality matting. This memento from the design process of creating a new pattern or colorway of fabric challenges the definition between fine art and decorative art by treating the conceptual mockup as an original work in itself. Handpainted on paper drawn in a grid, lovely pink plumes on a red background are both delicate and bold; one can see the technical precision required to translate this spirited design on a larger scale for the loom. One small cutting of fabric is included to the left of the image, with the technical aspects of the design written on a label to the upper right of the image. Strung with a wire on the back, ready for your interior. Please view the image gallery for a closer look at all the details.
