About the Item
Haitian metal art wall decoration from the 1970s signed M.U. The design is of a figure in festive regalia. The eyes, noses and partially the mouth are cut all the way .
A unique Haitian form of the art of steel drum sculpture. Primarily produced in the town of Croix-des- Bouquets using recycled oil drums. The process consists of setting fire inside drum to remove paint and remaining residue. Once cool, the drum is cut from top to bottom and laboriously the drum is pounded to a flat surface. A pattern is painted with chalk on the flat surface and then cut out. The design is achieved with a hammer, chisel and other rustic tools and usually is signed by the artist.

Condition: Very Good. No damage. Some (not bad) oxidation inherent to this art.
