Hotel Otawa, per Barclay Photography, 1992

About the Item

COLOUR PHOTOGRAPHY / COLOUR PHOTOGRAPHY Per Barclay, trained in Art History, completed his studies in Italy until 1994 and settled in Paris, where he currently lives. He is a multidisciplinary artist who works in sculpture, photography and installation. The two main aspects on which his work is based are, on the one hand, installations, carried out inside and outside buildings, characterised by their use of liquid elements such as water or oil and, on the other hand, photography, sometimes as a record of his interventions, sometimes conceived as sculpture. In the case of photography, this becomes just another means to an end; what is really important for this artist is the result, not the technique itself. His photographs reflect on the human condition, which, according to him, tends towards violence, towards competition with his fellow human beings. Works that are born from the gaze of a sculptor, as he himself indicates. He has exhibited at the Fondazione Merz (Turin, Italy, 2008), the Palacio de Cristal del Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid, 2003), Koldo Mitxelena Kulturunea (San Sebastián, 2002), the Centre de Création Contemporaine (Tours, France, 2001) and the Venice Biennale (1990), among others. His work forms part of national and international collections such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), the Fundación Telefónica (Madrid), the Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain (Nice, France), Es Baluard Museu dArt Modern i Contemporani de Palma and the Bergen Kunstmuseum (Bergen, Norway).
