About the Item
This is a single slab made from a rare and precious Japanese cedar known as Jindai-cedar. Jindai-cedar refers to cedar trees that have lain buried underground or at the bottom of lakes for hundreds, and sometimes even over a thousand years, before being unearthed by the forces of nature. Protected for centuries beneath soil, volcanic ash, or water, these trees have survived without decaying—a miraculous gift of nature shaped by the passage of time.
The timber used in this piece is believed to come from cedar that grew several centuries to over a millennium ago, though it is thought to have been excavated during the Meiji period (1860s–1900s). Having rested underground for hundreds of years, it has developed a unique, gray-tinged hue and deeply intricate grain patterns unlike those found in ordinary cedar. Its presence is both profound and serene, radiating an overwhelming sense of character.
Across its surface flows a captivating grain pattern that showcases the pure beauty of natural design. Depending on the light, its expression shifts—evoking the movement of water or the drifting of clouds. Such patterns and tones cannot be artificially reproduced; they are nature’s artistry, woven over centuries.
Jindai-cedar embodies the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi—the belief that true beauty lies not in perfection, but in the depth and character that emerge over time. It is a tangible expression of Japan’s unique aesthetic sensibilities.

Our Philosophy
Objects always tell the truth.
All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give
them deep affection as much as I can.
There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty.
But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it
will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing
today and to question us about an essence of beauty again.
I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have,
feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
