About the Item

Two Cocker Spaniels is an original color print, lithograph in color in a dark wooden frame with glass, work by the famous French sports artist Leon Danchin (1887-1938), signed in pencil, first half of the 20th century, France. On the back an inscription, this work was given as a gift from father to son in the year 1981 in Ghent. Leon Danchin, born in 1887 in Lille, France, began his career as an artist at the age of sixteen when he was admitted to the Salon des Artistes in Paris. He eventually became known as one of the best French artists, specializing in birds, dogs and horses, and is still highly regarded today. During his life he produced more than a hundred etchings and lithographs, focusing mainly, but not exclusively, on the sporting practice of animals in the field. He was also a talented painter and sculptor. This work is in good vintage condition, with some signs of age on the paper such as yellowing, and light signs of age and use on the wooden frame, check the photos for more details!
