About
An intimate, geometric drawing on paper by the influential American artist Sol LeWitt (1928-2007) of a square divided into four equal parts. In each section he has drawn lines in all four possible directions, vertical, horizontal, diagonal left and diagonal right. A highly conceptual artist, LeWitt focused on the cube in his two-dimensional wall drawings (sometimes drawn on site with instructions for others to execute) and three-dimensional modular sculptures. As A.O. Scott noted earlier this year in The New York Times, "LeWitt believed that an artist's work was primarily done not with the hands, but with the mind."
Signed and inscribed "For Brigit."
LeWitt's work is in major museum collections around the world including
The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, and the Tate Modern, London.
