About the Item
Beautifully executed in warm, roseate colors -- coral, terra cotta, brick and ivory -- this drawing was made by Allyn Cox, probably as a study for one of many murals he was commissioned to paint at the US Capitol in Washington, D.C. Cox spent 20 years painting and restoring murals starting in 1952; among his accomplishments was painting the Frieze of American History and restoring the Apotheosis of Washington in the Rotunda. He also designed murals for three first-floor corridors in the House wing, now called the Cox Corridors. The drawing is in pastel on board and is unframed.
