Tavern Scene from the Flemish School Ink Wash 19th Century

About the Item

Beautiful ink wash drawing of the Flemish school of a tavern scene. It depicts the interior of a tavern, a place where people gathered to eat and drink. In the foreground are two men and a woman around a table, presumably trying to curry favor. A man sitting behind them seems to be watching the scene with a mischievous look. Behind them, several people are visible, including one at the bar, a lantern hanging on the wall with what appears to be sausage. Very nice realization of the 19th century.

Very nice sketches of characters. Representing different emotions, clothes and personalities. We have a portrait of a strong woman with arrows. Below this woman, there is a representation of oriental characters, also called barbarians during Antiquity. Finally, on the left, another woman is represented with her head in her hands and sitting on a Klismos chair. This chair is typical of the ancient period. It is written at the bottom right "March 15", surely the date of creation of this sketch. The Empire style and period are inspired by Greco-Roman art, it is called the neoclassical. 17th century, pair of ink drawings on paper with studies for grotesques, friezes and helmets. Painter of central Italy of the 17th century, signed with monogram “A.M.”. The sheet is also worked on the back in which are drawn some articulated elements of decoration in the style of the Renaissance grotesque...
