Dated 1873 English watercolor of Scottish Highland cattle. These long-haired horn cattle are a hearty breed indigenous to the area. Grazing in the Highlands of Scotland. Signed & Dated: R.S. Mott 1873; flourished 1871-1881. Cattle & sheep of the Highlands were his specialties in oils & watercolors. Auction sales over the years including Christie's, London. Non-glare glass. A few beads missing from frame border. By sight: 10" x 15.75".

Artists Biography:
Born in Hadlow, Kent in 1834, he died at Leatherhead, Surrey in 1913, aged 78. He was trained at the Royal Academy of Arts during 1853 -57 where he won the medal for 'The best drawing from the Life' in both 1854 and 1857. He actively exhibited between 1854 and 1890. He had 30 paintings exhibited at the Royal Academy and specialised in Highland Cattle and general genre paintings. He was also an accomplished portrait painter.
He has paintings in the permanent exhibitions at Sunderland, York and Leicester Art Galleries and also in the Long Room at Lords Cricket...
