About the Item

Surrealist oil on canvas painting created by Russian artist Pierre Ino of Paris, France. Piece measures approximately 16" by 13" including frame and is signed Pierre Ino, lower right. In very good vintage condition with the exception of two dents to the canvas, as seen in my pictures Pierre Ino was born in Saint Petersburg in 1909 into a family of artists. In 1927, he moved to Paris. Ino participated in many exhibitions in France and abroad, including the A Gallery, Weil Gallery, the Hammer Gallery in New York, the Salon des Indépendants (1940, 1952) and the Galliera Museum (1971). "Ino's paintings are an open window on the realm of dreams, on the realm of imagination. " G. Annenkov. Ino's Surrealistic world is a romantic one of poetic dreams in which figures, from nowhere, live in an undetermined time that simultaneously evokes past, present, and future. His figures live in fantastic Gothic castles, and travel over mountain peaks or across the surface of unspecified planets with blue-green skies that are studded with silver stars. They are surrounded by invented Surrealistic objects and dream symbols whose motifs come from astrology, zoology, botany, anatomy, chemistry, mechanics, and from more esoteric sciences. Ino's figures move through these settings with Botticellian weightlessness and with that other-worldly expression of Florentine saints and of the madonnas of Northern Gothic art.
