1959 Latin American Painting PALO BORRACHO Tucuman by A Osorio Luque, Argentina

About the Item

Lovely Latin American oil on canvas painting by Argentine Antonio Osorio Luque from 1959. Named Palo Borracho which is the Argentine name for the Ceiba Speciosa or Silk Floss Tree. The subject matter is depicting the “safra” or sugar cane harvesting with its loaded cart being pulled be a pair of horses and the road lined with Palo Borrachos in full bloom. The color palette is in soft sepia tones with the flowers in pink and cart in blue green. Condition of the painting is very good but a good professional cleaning would bring out the original brillant colors intended by the artist. Frame is damaged and will not be sent but the titled brass plaque will be sent ANTONIO OSORIO LUQUE (ARGENTINA 1913-1979) was born in Tucaman in the nortwest of Argentina and was known for depicting landscapes and scenes from the Tucuman area. Palo Borracho (drunken stick) was probably named due to the practice of indigenous tribes in northern Argentina who used Ceiba’s wood to make bowls for fermenting alcohol. When the tree sheds its leaves beautiful pink or white flowers appear and its fruit ,when ripe, dissipates a cotton like fluff in the air. Another characteristic of the tree is that stores water in its trunk which is covered with sharp thorns, defense against predators. Brass plaque: ANTONIO OSORIO LUQUE – PALO BORRACHO – TUCUMAN – 1959 Measurements: painting – 27 1/2 inches high x 19 1/2 inches wide x 1 inch deep Condition: No damage on painting. Could use a good professional cleaning for color vibrance. Last image shows the frame with damage and is not included.
