About the Item
A wide and powerful abstract painting, "forme libre", oil on canvas, by Yves Corbassière (1925-2020), double-signed on the painting and on the back, dated 1959.
This beautiful composition of powerful colors focuses on an abstract organic or maybe chemical or musical motive driven by an expressionist movement, nuance of textures and subtle paint effects giving an idea of an explosion. Explosion of colors, explosion of music, explosion of life? Yves Corbassière was a close friend of Boris Vian and was part of the French movement of Zazous expressing their individuality by wearing big or garish clothing (similar to the zoot suit fashion in America a few years before) and dancing wildly to swing jazz.
The painting is an early work by Corbassière combining the aestethics of the period inspired by jazz and swing.
