About the Item

This is an original coal drawing by Danish artist H. P. Carlsen from 1933. Hans Peter Carlsen (1855-1950) was a painter from Funen who attended the Royal Academy of Fine arts with famous artists L.A, Ring and H.A. Brendekilde. The three friends were poor, but while the two others slowly became well known artists, H.P. Carlsen did not. He ended up incarcerated in 1892, 37 years old, at a facility where he spend most of his life for 57 years. At the facility he did not have access to the outside nature or painting supplies - he created his drawings with coal from the fire and the motives from his memory of past experiences alone. The motive is a foggy landscape with a forest. It is framed in a solid white painted wooden frame with glass. Great vintage condition. Some paint residue on the glass. Some shadows in the glass from the background will appear in the photos. Please see all the photos. Dimensions of frame: Height: 39 cm Width: 60 cm Dimensions of drawing: Height: 37 cm Width: 58 cm
